Partnerships, Preparedness Highlight 3rd Annual 4 Corners Hurricane Expo

Posted: Tuesday, June 09, 2009

Davenport — Join Polk, Orange, Osceola and Lake Counties as they partner to host the Third Annual Four Corners Hurricane Expo on Saturday, June 13, 2009, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Community of Faith, located at 9120 Student Drive, Davenport, Florida  33897.

This FREE hurricane expo will feature informational stations and  booths from a variety of agencies, including emergency management offices, fire departments and disaster volunteer organizations. The expo will also include hands-on activities and presentations from emergency responders on a variety of topics, including weather radios, food safety, children coping with disasters, and creating and maintaining a disaster supply kit.

In addition to the hurricane preparedness information available at the expo, various emergency-response vehicles and apparatus will be on display.

“When it comes to disaster readiness, everyone has a part to play.  At this expo, we can reach out to our communities and help our citizens and neighbors know what to expect, and how to pre-act and react,” said Pete McNally, Polk Emergency Management Director.  “With the right kind of planning and preparation, many would-be disasters can be mitigated, or downgraded, greatly.  It really pays to be educated.”

Hundreds of residents from Polk, Orange, Osceola and Lake counties attended the first two Four Corners Hurricane Expos, held in Polk and Lake Counties, respectively.  A different county in the Four Corners area will host the event each year, with this year’s honor going to Osceola County.

For more information about the Four Corners Hurricane Expo, please call the Osceola County Office of Emergency Management at 407.742.9000, or log on to www.osceola.org.
