BARTOW, Fla., (July 2, 2009) – Comcast subscribers who are used to turning on channel 33 to watch Polk's Government Television (PGTV) will now get their government fix on channel 5 instead. The channel change took effect on June 30.
According to Elaine Lunkes, Director of Community and Commercial Development for Comcast, channels were moved in Central Florida to allow Comcast to add products and services later this year. The Polk Education Channel and Local Government Access Channel moved to lower channel numbers. (The Polk County School Board channel, which was previously on 26, is now located on channel 7.)
PGTV can still be viewed on Bright House channel 622 and Verizon FIOS channel 20, as well as online at www.polk-county.net.
Be sure to watch PGTV live on Friday, July 3, 6:00-9:30 p.m. from downtown Lakeland during the city's "Red White & Kaboom" show featuring the band "Millhopper" and fireworks.
Also, on Thursday, July 9, a countywide school summit will be shown live from the Chain-of-Lakes Complex in Winter Haven, from 8 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Viewers can also participate in the summit online through a new webinar feature by logging onto www.theledger.com/pgtv.
