Polk Public Safety Proposed Service Improvement Plan

Posted: Wednesday, July 08, 2009

BARTOW - (July 8, 2009) – As part of the County’s budget process, the Polk County Public Safety department will present a plan to improve emergency services.  This plan would shift five Emergency Medical Services ambulances to new locations within the county and enhance coverage in those needed areas.

The proposed plan also recommends cross-training 30 Public Safety employees to be dual certified in both firefighting and Emergency Medical care.  The anticipated benefits include:

  • Improved emergency response times for approximately 35,000 residents.
  • Improved insurance ratings for homeowners in some areas with no

decrease in others.

  • Enhanced property protection by increasing the number of available

firefighters.

This plan is part of the County’s on-going effort to provide enhanced emergency services to the citizens of Polk County in the most cost-effective way.
