POLK FIREFIGHTERS REMIND US TO “SLOW DOWN”

Posted: Thursday, August 20, 2009

BARTOW – August 20, 2009 – It’s time for school to get back in to full swing and that means our children will be out in droves walking the sidewalks and crossing the streets.  On Monday, August 24 through Wednesday, August 26, Polk County Fire Rescue firefighters will be in school zones throughout the county holding signs urging residents to slow down in school zones.

Here are some tips for motorists to keep in mind when driving through school crossing zones:
• Always obey the crossing guards.
• Be aware of the location and speed of school zones along your commute.
• Do not speed in school zones.
• Anticipate anything and everything.  Children often dart out in front of cars without looking first.
• Avoid multi-tasking while driving. Using cell phones, tuning radios, etc.

Remember, slow down in school zones.  Save yourself the frustration of a ticket and save a child’s life!
