The Environmental Department is a full service organization with 6 functional groups:
Natural Resources Division
- This division develops and implements programs, such as Invasive Plant Management, Environmental Lands, Mosquito Control, Water Resources and Drainage, which protect and enhance Polk County's environment.
Waste Resource Management Division
- This division operates and manages many types of recycling and disposal services including; supervision of recycling and refuse collection in the unincorporated areas of the County and operation of the North Central Landfill.
Utilities Capital Projects
- Manages improvement and expansion projects
Utilities Customer Services
- Provides meter reading, billing and accounting
Utilities Operations
- Provides field services and emergency repairs
Utilities Technical Services
- Provides engineering, development coordination, utility location, permitting compliance and construction inspections
The water services provided include drinking water, wastewater management and reclaimed irrigation water. This department is an enterprise fund; therefore, our only source of income is from customer charges, and our only expenses are those necessary to provide you with the current level of services.
