Benefits Explained

All employees are paid by direct deposit on a biweekly basis.

Service Time           Accrual
Day 1 – Year 5          12 days
Year 6 – Year 10       15 days
Year 11 – Year 15     18 days
Year 16 – Year 20     21 days
21+ Years                 25 days

If you have hours left over from another county organization, you may be able to transfer those hours.

Regular full-time employees accrue sick leave at the rate of 3.7 hours biweekly with no limit. County employees may also join the Sick Leave Pool, which is here to extend your sick leave benefit if you need it.

Employees may use up to three days per year as personal time off with hours being deducted from their sick leave account. PTO is reinstated on an annual basis.

Polk County employees receive 10 paid holidays a year.

All regular full-time and part-time employees are covered under the Florida Retirement System (FRS). For information about FRS, go to www.myfrs.com.

  • Medical: The county offers three medical plans through Aetna to best fit your needs. Those plans include Aetna Open Access Select, Aetna Choice POS II HRA and the Aetna Value Plan.
  • Prescription Drug Plan: Provided when you enroll in a county medical plan.
  • Dental: The county offers high and low options dental plans through Aetna.
  • Vision: Two vision care options provided through MetLife.
  • Life Insurance and Supplemental Life Insurance.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP): At no cost to you, our EAP provides resources for counseling, legal and financial services.

Polk County’s Employee Wellness Clinic offers free medical care to benefits-eligible employees and dependents covered under the county’s health insurance plan.
