Two New Road Closures to Slow Polk Traffic Next Week

Published: November 21, 2024

Bartow, Fla. (Nov. 21, 2024) —A drainage and road restoration project will close Mount Olive Road from Berkley Road to Derosa Road in Polk City for three days starting Monday, Nov. 25. Traffic will be detoured along Berkley Road to University Boulevard or State Road 33 (Commonwealth Avenue) to bypass work zone. Motorists are advised to add extra drivetime to trips in this area or find alternate routes to limit expected delays and backups, especially during peak hour commutes.

Starting Tuesday, Nov. 26, manhole repairs will close the intersection of Southeast Third Street and South Orange Avenue for seven days as part of a yearlong City of Fort Meade wastewater improvement project. While residential access will be maintained during construction, traffic will detour at Lime Street or Southeast Sixth Street to South Perry Avenue to avoid closure. Minor delays are anticipated along the brief detour route.

Other countywide construction projects continue to affect local traffic. Commuters should always drive carefully, be alert to crews and equipment, and follow detour signs. For further details, contact Bill Skelton with the Polk County Roads and Drainage Division at (863) 535-2200.
