Prescribed Burn at Gator Creek Thursday

Bartow, Fla. (June 27, 2024) — Polk County Parks and Natural Resources will conduct a 25-acre prescribed burn within the Polk County Environmental Lands Gator Creek conservation area. Gator Creek will be closed to the public today, June 27, 2024, and is expected to reopen tomorrow June 28. Gator Creek is located in northwest Polk County.

This burn is being conducted for ecological purposes. Prescribed burns are important to protect conservation lands from uncontrolled wildfires while supporting the health of Polk County’s ecosystems. Polk County Parks and Natural Resources routinely conducts prescribed burns to maintain the health and ecological function of natural areas.

All prescribed burns are subject to being postponed or canceled due to weather or other factors.
