Circle B Bar Reserve – Here’s to Your Health Hike
Published on Dec 28, 2020
Bartow, Fla. (Dec. 28, 2020) – Come join County Commissioner George Lindsey for a hike around Circle B Bar Reserve on New Year’s Day.
The annual, Here’s to Your Health Hike, begins at 9 a.m. at the Nature Discovery Center and is about 2 1/2 miles in length along Alligator Alley loop.
“I’ve been doing this hike since I first took office in 2012 with just one hurricane-related interruption,” Lindsey said. “This is a time to start the New Year on the right foot. This is a great time to get outside, enjoy nature and take advantage of this wonderful place.”
Lindsey’s hosting of the hike was a continuation of the annual event that began during former Commissioner Bob English’s tenure.
“Bob was a jogger, hiker and outdoors type person,” Lindsey added. “When I assumed his district, I was asked if I wanted to continue what he had done. I agreed and have been doing it almost every year since.”
Volunteers and staff along the trail will point out some of the beautiful aspects of nature. Start the New Year off right, by reconnecting with nature while getting some enjoyable exercise.
Participants will explore the oak hammock, lake and marsh habitats during the walk. They also will learn about the history of the area and why Circle B Bar Reserve was acquired. This is an excellent chance to see the myriad of plants and animals that live on the Reserve, including the migratory birds that spend the winter here.
Make sure to wear sturdy, close-toed shoes and dress for the day’s weather. It is also recommended to bring water, binoculars and sun protection. Everyone can walk at their own pace and registration is not required.
Hikers are encouraged to maintain social distancing and take personal safety precautions.
