Road Closures to Slow East Polk Traffic

Published on Jun 24, 2022

Bartow, Fla. (June 24, 2022) — Construction will slow traffic along three East Polk County roadways next week with detours needed to safely carry out the work.

Replacement of aging wooden transmission poles with new steel poles by Duke Energy will close East Johnson Avenue in Haines City to through-traffic for five days starting Monday, June 27. Daytime closures will occur between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. daily through Friday, July 1. Pole replacement will take place at three locations from N. 30th Street to Power Line Road and require briefly detouring along Baker Dairy Road from both roads.

Drainage installations for a new subdivision will close Lichtenwalter Road near the intersection with Old Bartow Eagle Lake Road in unincorporated Winter Haven to through-traffic for four days starting Tuesday, June 28. Traffic will detour at Old Bartow Eagle Lake Road or Spirit Lake Road to bypass closure.

New subdivision construction to install water and sewer services will close FDC Grove Road from Holly Hill Grove Road 3 to Minute Maid Ramp Road 1 in Davenport for the three days starting Wednesday, June 29. Depending on direction of travel, traffic will be briefly detoured along Holly Hill Grove Road 3 or Minute Maid Ramp Road 1 to US Hwy. 27 to bypass work zone.

Minor commuting delays are likely, especially during peak-hour drive times. Motorists are advised to drive carefully, be alert to detour signs, and be prepared for slower traffic. For further details, call Bill Skelton with the Polk County Roads & Drainage Division at (863) 535-2200.
