Polk Gateway employee app launches

Bartow, Fla. (Nov. 30, 2020) – Polk Gateway, the new app and website designed to engage and inform all Polk County government employees on county news, launched today.

Polk Gateway provides insight on all things related to the Board of County Commissioners, including employment information, news articles, employee spotlights and other helpful information to better connect with all employees.

“The days of a newsletter or an email blast to keep your employees informed are a thing of the past and don’t work for an organization like ours anymore,” Communications Director Mianne Nelson said. “Polk County has such a diverse and dispersed workforce that we found we needed an app like this to better communicate with everyone. Keeping more than 2,000 employees, spread out over more than 2,000 square miles, informed and engaged with our culture here is no easy task. This helps us accomplish that in an efficient and modern way.”

The development of the app has been a months-long undertaking and has been placed on all employee-issued phones. That way, no matter if an employee works in the office or in the field, they can stay connected.

While the app is meant for the use of county employees and county business, the Polk Gateway also has a public-facing component that allows public users the ability to see a limited amount of news content and other features, but isn’t designed to take the place of the county’s website at www.polk-county.net.

“The importance of internal employee communication is paramount in today’s modern workplace,” Nelson said. “If we don’t have an efficient system to communicate with our employees, we aren’t going to be as efficient and responsive as we need to be for Polk’s residents.”
