Bartow, Fla. (January 29, 2021) – Fire Chief Robert Weech and Polk County Fire Rescue’s senior staff offered words of wisdom and encouragement to a class of 24 new hires who were inducted into the agency Thursday morning.
With 23 firefighters and 1 paramedic receiving their badges, helmets and gear, the group will be fully prepared to contribute to various Polk County Fire Rescue crews across the county as soon as this weekend.
The class had three weeks of in-house training to sharpen their skills, which included vehicle extrication, live-fire drills, down firefighter rescue, EMS procedures and hose operations. During this time, the lone paramedic in the class worked on the skills he needs to provide emergency medical service to the residents and visitors of the county.
“We look forward to this class contributing to its mission of providing industry-leading service to Polk County,” Chief Robert Weech said.
