Multiple CSX Rail Crossing Closures to Slow Polk Area Traffic Next Week

Published on Jan 29, 2021

Bartow, Fla. (January 29, 2021) — Track upgrades by CSX Transportation will close multiple railroad crossings slowing traffic in and around Winter Haven, Eloise and Auburndale starting Tuesday. Progressive closures lasting two to three days each will successively close the following roads as currently scheduled.

Winter Haven - Tuesday, February 2:

  • Old Bartow/Lake Wales Road – East of Logistics Parkway (south of CSX Intermodal Logistics Center)
  • Pollard Road – South of Eloise Loop Road

Eloise/Winter Haven - Wednesday, February 3:

  • Eloise Loop Road – West of Pollard Road
  • American Superior Blvd. – East of Snively Avenue
  • 7th Street SW at Avenue R SW – West of Cypress Gardens Blvd. (SR 540) at US 17 Intersection
  • 15th Street SW – North of N. Lake Shipp Drive
  • Coleman Road – North of Recker Hwy.

Auburndale - Thursday, February 4:

  • Magnolia Avenue – East of McKean Street

CSX may change the starting date and duration of any closure without prior notice due to circumstances encountered as work advances.

Travel delays are anticipated as traffic will be detoured to bypass closures. Commuters are encouraged to seek alternate routes. Motorists are further advised to observe signs redirecting traffic and to add time to trips through these areas. Similar track improvements are also scheduled to consecutively close another ten CSX railroad crossings later in February as crews proceed through Lakeland and Mulberry.

The Polk County Board of County Commissioners and County Manager’s Office regret the traffic disruption motorists will face from this round of successive closures requiring detours. Due to longstanding statutory entitlements, CSX has considerable authority to close their crossings along public and private roadways. Polk County recognizes these repairs are necessary and will make for better, safer driving conditions when completed.

Anyone wanting to report a public road rail crossing issue or complaint should call CSX at 1-800-232-0144 or email them at TellCSX@csx.com.
