Polk Fire Rescue Improves Employee Communication

Polk County Fire Rescue’s 49 stations are getting a communications upgrade.
The Polk County Board of County Commissioners approved an agreement this week with Encore Broadcast Equipment and Sales, which is expected to cost about $200,000.
Digital signage will be able to improve communication within the division through the broadcast of active calls, training videos, current weather, emergency communications and improve situational awareness, Polk Fire Chief Robert Weech said. Installation on the digital information boards will begin next week.
When Polk Fire was audited in 2019 by Emergency Services Consulting International, one of its findings cited a weakness in the division’s internal communications. To address this, the digital information boards were developed.
“During the last two years we have worked to correct the deficiencies ESCI cited in its audit to improve our response and the safety of the public,” Weech said. “We continue to strive for excellence in every way we serve the public. And that begins with better communication within our own division.”
