New Year's in Nature at Circle B Bar Reserve
Published on Dec 28, 2021
Start 2022 off on the right foot at the annual "Here’s to Your Health Hike" on New Year's Day at Circle B Bar Reserve.
Join County Commissioner George Lindsey at 9 a.m. for a hike around Circle B. The hike begins at Polk’s Nature Discovery Center and meanders along roughly 2 1/2 miles of beautiful trails. Polk County Parks & Natural Resources staff and volunteers will be stationed along the trail to talk about the reserve’s wildlife and restoration.
Participants will hike through the oak hammock of Circle B and along the shoreline of Lake Hancock on the Alligator Alley trail.
Along the hike, visitors will be able to explore a variety of habitats including oak hammock, freshwater marsh, hardwood swamp and lakeshore. There is also a tremendous bird population, including a variety of wading birds, waterfowl, ospreys and bald eagles.
Take some time out to explore the Nature Discovery Center. Inside visitors can experience a variety of hands-on exhibits, the Exploration Lab, Land through Time Theater, or the Expedition Room. The center will be open until 11:30 a.m. the day of the hike.
The Nature Discovery Center also serves as the hub to disseminate information about Polk County's Environmental Lands. For more information, call (863) 668-4673. Circle B Bar Reserve is at 4399 Winter Lake Road in Lakeland.
