Bulkhead Repair Closing 21st Street NW at Hartridge-Idylwild Canal Bridge for 90 Days

Published on Jan 5, 2022

Bartow, Fla. (January 5, 2021) — A Polk County Roads and Drainage Division project to repair bulkhead walls beneath the Hartridge-Idylwild Canal Bridge (No. 164223) will close 21st Street NW in Winter Haven for 90 days starting Monday, January 10. Both roadway approach slabs to the bridge will be removed, and the underlying embankment excavated to install a new anchoring system needed to stop settlement and to keep the bulkhead walls from pushing (deflecting) into the canal below the bridge.

Local traffic will be permitted along 21st Street NW, but through-traffic will be detoured at Havendale Boulevard and U.S. Highway 92 to bypass work zone at the bridge. The bridge will be closed to all traffic. Detour routes may be lengthy for some motorists. Commuters are advised to drive carefully, be alert to detour signs, and to add extra time to trips through the area. Especially, during the morning and evening peak traffic hours.
