Bartow, Fla. (January 14, 2022) —CSX Transportation track repairs will close the Ewell Road rail crossing in south Lakeland between Old Hwy. 37 and South Florida Avenue from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 17. Westbound Ewell Road traffic will be detoured at South Florida Avenue with Shepherd Road and West Pipkin Road as alternate east-west routes to bypass closure. Eastbound traffic can detour at Lunn Road or Old Highway 37 as north-south bypass options. Closure is necessary for the protection of rail crews as work will encroach the Ewell Road right-of-way with equipment and materials transiting the crossing. Commuters are advised to expect delays and to add extra time to trips through this area. Polk County regrets any traffic disruption resulting from the closure.
