Polk County Fire Rescue is excited to announce the theme for EMS Week 2023, in collaboration with the American College of Emergency Physicians and the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians. This nationwide campaign takes place from May 21 to 27. It honors the individuals who provide emergency medical services in Polk County.

Polk County Medical Director Paul Banerjee, M.D., said that the theme of the 2023 EMS Week conference is "Where Emergency Care Begins." The event will bring together stakeholders from Polk County, the state of Florida and the surrounding region, as well as experts from the "EMS Eagles Global Alliance." It will serve as a platform to share the latest advances in prehospital care, best practices and cutting-edge research.

Paul E. Pepe, M.D., M.P.H., an academician, a public health and safety leader, and a distinguished figure in governmental public service, will serve as the conference moderator. With expertise spanning critical care, emergency services and disaster medicine, Pepe has been instrumental in pioneering advancements over the past four decades.

Polk State College will host the conference from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 24 and 25 at the Center for Public Safety in Winter Haven. The conference is open to certified paramedics, emergency medical technicians, firefighters, first responders and health care professionals. All attendees must be registered to attend. Registered participants will have the opportunity to engage with industry experts, participate in informative sessions, and stay informed about the latest developments in emergency medical services.

Fire Chief Hezedean A. Smith, D.M., expressed enthusiasm for the gathering of EMS experts, emphasizing that it is the only event of its kind in the region. Smith stated, "The conference recognizes the collective efforts of Polk County's leading EMS-based systems and it celebrates the contributions of all the stakeholders and partners involved in delivering exceptional prehospital emergency care."

The EMS Week 2023 conference promises to be an enlightening and inspiring event. As the nation commemorates EMS Week, Polk County and its esteemed partners will proudly acknowledge the remarkable individuals and partners who play a pivotal role in the field of prehospital emergency care.
