Bartow, Fla. (May 10, 2024) — Power Line Road just north of Johnson Avenue in Haines City is closing for three weeks starting Wednesday, May 15 to stabilize subgrade beneath the travel lanes and shoulder slope to correct subsidence due to voids in the underlying soils. Subsidence results from a potential relic sinkhole along with the steep embankment slope adjacent to the roadway pavement section. Low-mobility pressure grouting will use over 50 injection points to fill voids of varying depths down to the limestone bedrock. During closure, Power Line Road traffic will be detoured along Johnson Avenue or Baker Dairy Road to North 30th Street to bypass work zone. While the detour route isn’t lengthy, delays and backups are likely, especially during peak-hour traffic. Commuters are advised to drive carefully and add extra drivetime to trips in this area.
