Bartow, Fla. (December 21, 2018) — Polk County opened the new Eagle Lake Loop Road Bridge this afternoon after five months of construction. The $2.3 million concrete span crosses the Wahneta Farms Drainage Canal just east of Rifle Range Road in southwest Winter Haven. The current structure replaces the original bridge built around 1961 that was classified as functionally obsolete. The new bridge meets current structural and safety standards to handle traffic better and more safely than the old crossing.
Polk County extends its gratitude to local residents, businesses and commuters for their patience while the bridge was closed and traffic was detoured.
The Eagle Lake Loop Road Bridge and recently repaved County Road 540A are among the latest Polk County infrastructure investments in this highly-traveled and growing area. New street lighting and sidewalk projects are also programmed for the nearby Rifle Range Road corridor to improve traffic safety for motorists and pedestrians.
