North Central Landfill

7425 De Castro Rd – Auburndale, FL 33823

Hours of Operation:
Monday through Friday: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday: 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The North Central Landfill is now to be used solely by commercial haulers carrying materials from within Polk County. All loads entering the North Central Landfill must be covered and secured according to Florida Statute 316-525(I). All haulers who enter the North Central Landfill will be required to wear proper PPE. Residents will be redirected to the North Central Transfer Station.

Out of county haulers and waste are not accepted.

Recyclable Material Dropoff

There is a drop off area at the landfill, located across from Household Hazardous Waste, for those materials traditionally recycled curbside. Also, the landfill will continue to recycle concrete, yard trash, appliances, scrap metals, electronics and household hazardous wastes.  Residents are also encouraged to pursue their own means of recycling though local recycling drop off locations (such as businesses) or by mail.

Accepted Recyclable Materials

  • Aluminum cans
  • Steel (tin) cans or containers
  • Cardboard, cereal boxes, egg cartons (cardboard)
  • Newspaper, uncoated paper, paper products
  • Most gallon and half gallon, translucent plastics (no colored or clear plastics), milk, juice or water jugs
  • Only translucent plastics (no colored or clear plastics) are accepted.

Keeping recyclable materials dry and free of grease, soil and residue is the best way to ensure success.

Keeping recyclable materials free of grease, soil and residue is the best way to ensure success. Avoid including items that can contaminate the drop-off containers. Only those items listed should be placed in the recyclable materials containers. Items not listed above should be placed in your household waste cart.

Why not glass and plastic?

Glass breaks easily during the collection process and compromises other viable materials in the RMCP roll cart. As a result, broken glass embeds in healthy materials making them unlikely to be reused or recycled successfully into new products.

Not all plastics are created equal. Many do not blend effectively during the process of creating a new product. This poses regulatory and processing challenges to manufacturers, who incorporate post-consumer plastics into a new product. For this reason, Polk County limits its collection to products that have the longest environmental and economic value, such as milk and juice jugs.

North Central Transfer Station

3131 K-Ville Ave. – Auburndale

Hours of Operation:

Monday to Friday: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Saturday: 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Solid Waste has separate entrances for residents and commercial haulers to the North Central Landfill. The primary purpose of this change is to ensure the safety of our customers by separating large commercial vehicles from smaller personal ones. In addition to the safety benefit, customers will experience reduced wait times for disposal.

The North Central Transfer Station (NCTS) is open only to Polk County residents to dispose of their waste materials more conveniently. The NCTS is open on the north side of the Landfill off K-Ville Road. The NCTS accepts cars, small trucks and utility or enclosed trailers. All other vehicles must use the North Central Landfill.

Out of county residents and waste are not accepted.
